This is an ideal certification for sales managers looking to work selling AWS, and describes the cloud platform’s sales model and how owners of Amazon want to present themselves. However, for engineers who want to poke around Amazon Cloud I recommend starting with Cloud Computing 101 (30 minute) and AWS Whitepaper Overview of Amazon Web Service (153 pages).
For those looking to use cloud computing in business for the first time, I recommend focusing on the following points in the course:
Migration. Obviously, there are many options. You can spend a year with your team and decide to use another platform, or deploy your application in one day and start making money soon, or vice versa. In the course, AWS will demonstrate several migration methods, compare your business to a cafeteria, and choose a solution in a boxing match with the purpose of hiding possible complications like hiring new or training old team members..
Support. You will know that after migration you can focus on your business process and you don’t need to care about bare metal servers. Cloud gives a lot of flexibility and opportunities that are not free and time consuming. AWS provides Enterprise support to you.
Bare metal server. Why does AWS after describing the perfection of virtualization provide you dedicated servers if you want? Because CPU, Memory and Storage are just the tip of iceberg of parameters which maybe you didn’t need. Just know that a new server out the box works faster than it will a year later after working under 100% load and using 25% of this server when other resources are idle is not the same when 75% is used by someone else.
Availability of AWS services are almost 100% but only inside the region AZ Data Center or when you have direct connection. If you are in another city or even country you have to deal with the Internet that is often unstable and has low bandwidth compared with local networks. Just think about the Snow family that AWS uses to transfer your data. Do you have a lot of data flow? Order a truck because it is faster than the Internet.
Addiction. If your business can work on any Cloud and on-premises that is good news. Otherwise I suggest AWS charge you double next month.
