Usefulness

It is common practice to check information about a company before any initial negotiation process. However, not all research provides the kind of information that Elon Musk could use.

According to the main web page my potential new employer’s mission is to simplify investing for businesses. The website consists of slogans and links to market data providers, exchanges, brokers, etc. All I managed to get out of it is that they are software developers. If I want a trial version of the software I need to fill out a form to get it. I tried to gather some information from a YouTube interview with the CEO during Money 20/20, Amsterdam 2024. Again nothing. Hundreds of videos but only a few with thousands of views, others with 10, 50 or 350. It seems that nobody cares about the brokers official dinner and their expert opinions. Here, I recalled a quote from Elon Musk: “This is ridiculous, I have more than 100 million followers, and I’m only getting tens of thousands of impressions.” Then he fired a top Twitter engineer, while companies at Money 20/20 never even hired anyone in the first place. They don’t even watch their own interviews

Of course I checked more information about the company before the meeting and made a decision to decline any offers. But the idea of real work sticks in my mind. One tries to pretend to do a job, another doesn’t even know how to pretend while the third just does useful work. So my advice is, if you want to be popular try to be useful.
